Celebrating Shared Commitment to Social Action in St. Louis

The St. Louis region is a place of celebration and unity, where people of all faiths come together to observe and honor their beliefs. Every year, the Jewish and Muslim Community Service Day is celebrated on December 25th, providing an opportunity for members of both communities to come together and show their commitment to social action. The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) and its Social Justice Center in Milford and Lee Bohm coordinate the annual event, which takes place at Christmas so that volunteers can spend the holiday with their families while also strengthening the relationship between the Jewish and Muslim communities.

The day is marked by a variety of activities, including evening iftar, which is observed every day at dusk during Ramadan. During this time, people gather at mosques, family homes, or community centers to pray, reflect, and dine on traditional foods such as vegetables, potatoes, halal meats, fruits, hot sauces, breads, and candies. The Jewish and Muslim Community Service Day is a wonderful opportunity for members of both communities to come together in celebration and solidarity. It is a chance to recognize the importance of social action and to strengthen the bonds between the Jewish and Muslim communities in St. Louis. This special day is an important reminder of the power of collaboration and mutual respect.

It is a time for members of both communities to come together in celebration of their shared commitment to social action. By working together, we can create a more inclusive society that values diversity and celebrates our differences. At the same time, it is also an opportunity for us to recognize our commonalities. We can learn from each other's cultures and traditions, while also recognizing our shared values of justice and compassion. The Jewish and Muslim Community Service Day is an important reminder that we are all part of one community. By coming together in celebration of our shared commitment to social action, we can create a more just and equitable society for all.
